According to the archives, the tin production in Osaka had already begun in 1679, and the skills came from Kyoto. Before the World War II, during the highest stage of development, over 250 artisans were working there.
In 1983, Osaka Naniwa Pewter got certified as a traditional craft by Minister of international trade and industry (currently Minister of economy, trade and industry), and now, the artisan makes products by inheriting the wisdom and the expertise of predecessors.
