Description
This item is decorated with delicate openwork.The handles and lid knob are decorated with a popular motif "mandarin (referring to officials of the Qing Dynasty in China) Chinese doll".
Red Dynasty / Xian Red / Gödöllő
The Gedele Palace (a baroque palace in Gedele, a suburb of Budapest, the capital of Hungary) was the summer residence of Empress Elisabeth, who loved Hungary very much. The Gedele series was the first of the Herend Chinoiserie, named in honor of its delivery to the Gedele Palace.
This pattern is an adaptation of an ancient Chinese auspicious design, and the design is strongly influenced by Kakiemon. "Pine, Bamboo, and Plum ( three friends of winter)" are painted on symmetrical windows.
The pine and bamboo remain unchanged in color in winter, while the plum blossoms bloom in the cold, and thus have the meaning of integrity and moderation.
Chinoiserie
A style of art popular in Europe from the late 17th to the early 19th century. Based on Chinese taste and fused with the Rococo style, it was used in architecture, furniture, and decoration, and was especially prevalent in ceramics.
Herend's "chinoiserie" patterns are modeled after Chinese and Japanese porcelain, and are woven with Herend's rich sense of playfulness to create a unique charm.
Herend
In 1826, Herend opened a kiln on the western edge of Hungary, near the border with Austria. This small pottery kiln was purchased by Mor Fischer in 1839, and he began to focus on the production of tableware.
In 1851, Queen Victoria purchased a set of tableware for Windsor Castle, and Herend became one of the most famous kilns in Europe.
In 1866, when Franz Joseph, then Emperor of Austria, became Emperor of Hungary, Herend tableware graced the banquets at his court. Under the protection of the Habsburgs, who were known as the noblest of the nobility, Herend tableware attracted the royalty and aristocracy of Vienna and other European countries. Herend developed together with the Austrian court, which was prosperous at the time.
Today, Herend continues to uphold the tradition of handmade work, from modeling to painting, while creating new motifs one after another.The combination of traditioni and nnovation is a very important element of Herend Porcelain.
