Magnus Huchen reuters, a 20-year-old ceramic painter, discovered kaolin, a raw material for porcelain, in Steinberg, Bavaria. In 1814, he built a private ceramics factory in Bavaria, Germany. Fearing competition from the Nimfenburg kiln, a royal kiln of the Bavarian royal family, in times when it was difficult for civilians to create companies alone, the central government finally granted permission to open the kiln in Carles in 1822, eight years later. Decorative cups without handles, fruit bowls and dessert plates became early hit items, and since then, Huchen Reuters has continued to manufacture beautifully decorated art items that emphasize functionality for actual use.
Proud of the Bavarian symbol "Lion Mark" given by the king on the condition that "we make products superior to anything", today we continue to make authentic, translucent thin porcelain such as the traditional "Blue Onion" pattern and the design "Maria Theresa" loved for generations, while also making original design tableware with designers. Fuchen Reuters joined Rosenthal in 2000.
