satsuma kiriko is a
produced by the Satsuma domain from the end of the Tokugawa shogunate to the beginning of the Meiji era. A major feature of Satsuma kiriko is the "blur" that appears on the shaved surface. "Colored glass" is made by wearing colored glass on transparent glass. It was the only technology in Japan at that time that only the Satsuma domain had. If you cut the layer of thick colored glass, the lower the layer of color, the thinner it becomes and the more "blurred" it becomes. And a large and deep cut with blur is also a feature of Satsuma kiriko.
"The History of Cut Children"
In the middle of the Edo period, the cut glass "Cut glass" that was transmitted to Nagasaki was first made in Osaka, and eventually it was transmitted to Edo and blossomed as Japan's unique cut glass "Edo Cut child". At the end of the Edo period, the Satsuma domain created "Satsuma Kiriko", which was made by layering colored glass on transparent glass while being influenced by Edo kiriko for industrial promotion. Backed by a unique Japanese sensibility, Satsuma Kiriko boasted high technology and beauty, but it was abolished in a short life during the war at the end of the Edo era. The ruined Satsuma kiriko, long forgotten, was reprinted again at the end of the 20th century and revived its beautiful appearance.
