Emma Bridgewater's tableware, which is reminiscent of the careful life of a small English village, is made in England with a
commitment to "Made in England - Made in England", and
has a workshop in Stoke-on-Trent, the birthplace of British ceramics, and is
consistently done in England from firing to coloring.
Emma was looking for a special set of cups and saucers as a birthday present for her mother, but was disappointed to find that there were no stores selling what she was looking for. And in 1985, Emma realized that there were other people like her who wanted colorful, beautiful and practical pottery, so she started a pottery company. Today, Emma Bridgewater is run by her and her husband, Matthew Rice, who also designs and designs them. The pattern design and shapes of the sponge wear are by Emma, while the more regular collections, Ears in the Country, Birds, and Animals, are designed by Matthew.
All of the design ideas are inspired by the daily lives of Emma and Matthew and their four children. For example, the marmalade pattern with bright orange slices was created in reference to the family's tradition of making homemade marmalade and stocking it on cupboards every February. In addition, all Emma Bridgewater pottery is handmade in Stoke-on-Trent, the birthplace of British ceramics. It is one of the largest ceramic manufacturers in Stoke-on-Trent and is sold in famous London department stores such as Harrods, Fortnum & Mason and Liberty.
All Emma Bridgewater sponge wear is hand-cut in-house with sponge stamps. Beginning in the 19th century, this technique is the most distinctive feature of Emma Bridgewater, giving it a colorful and special charm. Emma and Matthew design all the patterns, which are cut into sponges in the factory using a soldering iron. Then, ink is applied to the sponge and a pattern is drawn on the unglazed pottery. Some of them are very complicated, but they are handy for skilled potters. Since it is a hand-stamped backstamp, there are shades of color, but that is also the charm of handmade.
