-The history of glass ~
Starting with the traditional Islamic glass in the 12-13th century, the art of glass making expanded into Venice and around 16-17th-century the first glass factories were formed in whole Europe. In the 18-19th century, many factories were opened in French, especially in Alsace-Lorraine on the north-east and the east side of Belgium. End of the 17th-century first crystal glass was born in England when the usefulness of lead oxide was discovered. Then, one hundred years later the technology of high-quality transparent crystal glass was established. During that time, Czech glassmakers in Bohemia region started to develop cutting techniques on crystal glasses and soon other countries factories were copied them. This discovery eventually led to the usage of today's modern crystal glasses. From the middle of 20th century, factories with the automated system were established and much bigger, faster production became available. But unfortunately, this kind of mass production squeezed out many traditional glass factories where the focus was on handmade production. Currently, you can find great masterpieces from those time in museums and antiques.
