Description
EdenAhead of their 290th birthday they asked Rörstrand’s greatest fans for favourite pattern from 40 years of designs. The winner was Eden, earning Sigrid Richter’s hotly sought-after 1960s design classic the honour of being resurrected in a special jubilee edition. The halved blue apple is a fine example of how a retro service from Rörstrand transcends fleeting fashions to feel as right today as it did when it was new. And each time you set a table with it, you move a little closer to Paradise.
Rorstrand
Since 1726, the kiln of royal warrant of Sweden, Rorstrand is the second oldest European pottery maker.
In 18th century its rich ornaments and high quality products had received favorable opinions, and in the middle of 19th century, its artistic design confirmed those compliments by winning international prizes. Todays, Rorstrand supplies its tableware for the receipt dinner of Nobel Prize. Although since 2001, it has affiliated to Finish brand iittala, it still produces prestigious tableware with the brand name, Rorstrand.
Designer: Sigrid Richter
The credit for designing Eden is often wrongly attributed to Marianne Westman. The fact is that Marianne was travelling in the USA at the time, so the assignment was given to the German decorative artist, Sigrid Richter. She had previously worked as a faience painter at Gustavsberg before moving to Rörstrand in the mid-1950s. It is, however, uncertain how many decorative designs Sigrid created before returning to her native Hannover to follow a career as a ceramicist.
