"About Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki" In
Kyoto, which has long been the center of Japan cuisine and tea ceremony, utsuwa has also achieved exceptional development. The elaborate paintings and the bold layers of glazes evoke a sense of the grandeur of nature, but the unexpected designs and color combinations capture the imagination. In order to meet the diverse needs of discerning Kyoto townspeople, chefs, and tea makers, craftsmen have drawn potter's wheels with their own hands and generously poured their skills and wisdom into creating ceramics with various expressions. At the same time, a unique production form was built up in which many processes were repeated while going back and forth between kilns. Kyoto's unique ceramics "Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki" were designated as traditional crafts by the national government, and even today they gorgeously color the culinary landscapes of a wide range of Japan.
"History of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki"
Kiyomizu-yaki is a pottery in Kyoto, and the name "Kiyomizu" comes from the fact that it was baked in front of the gate of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Eventually, the number of potters increased outside the area around Kiyomizu-dera Temple, so they came to be collectively called "Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki".
Production of Kiyomizu-yaki began in the Momoyama period, and in the early Edo period, Nonomura Ninsei, who is said to be the founder of Kyo-yaki colored painting, completed splendid and elegant colored pottery. Ogata Kenzan, who was taught the pottery method, also created his own ga-pottery and built a heyday. (*The elder brother of Ogata Inuiyama, who is five years older, is Ogata Kōrin, a well-known leader of the Rimpa school.) Then, in the
latter half of the 18th century, in the Edo period, Okuda Eisen succeeded in producing the first porcelain in Kyoto, and revived the Kuresu red painting and kojie ware of the late Ming and Qing periods. After that, many potters continued to produce their own old dyeing and red paintings, and in this way, many talented master craftsmen created their own designs and techniques, and Kyoto became a mecca for Japan ceramics.
Delicate and elegant Kiyomizu ware with thin manufacturing and beautiful design by advanced rokuro technique. Even now, after the changes of the times, it is still highly regarded as a high-quality ceramic backed by the culture of Kyoto.
"Kyo-yaki / Kiyomizu-yaki Requests for the purchase of products"
All products are manufactured by hand and by hand. Due to differences in manufacturing time, the dimensions and capacity displayed on the delivered product and the color pattern in the photo may differ slightly. Also, because it is earthenware (pottery), there may be some distortion or small black spots. Please note.
* In addition, if the stock runs out, it may take about 1 to 2 months to deliver.
"Handling of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki"
Among the pottery are porcelain (stone) and pottery (earthen). Pottery is highly absorbent and breathable, and the longer it is used, the more the taste and texture will appear.
How to use it skillfully If you soak it in
lukewarm water before using it and moisten the dough with moisture in advance, it will be difficult for tea astringency and stains to stick.
Pottery is water-absorbent, and if it remains absorbing dirt along with moisture, it will cause mold to develop. After use, rinse with clean water and dry well before storing.
The grain of the fabric of pottery is coarser than porcelain, so please be especially careful when handling it.
About colored ceramics Please
avoid using colored ceramics with gold and silver in hot appliances such as microwave ovens. It may cause the glaze to melt or the color picture to peel off.
Colors can oxidize and discolor over time. If it darkens, you can lightly polish it with a special polish or eraser, etc. to restore its beauty. Avoid using bleach.
About crossingtoe
Please note that crossed toe glaze products may be damaged by sudden temperature changes such as sudden pouring of hot water.
Avoid prolonged contact with strongly acidic foods such as pickled plums and salty foods such as salt kelp. Doing so may cause discoloration or deterioration. About penetration
The penetration product uses glass glaze for the glaze (uwagusuri), and there are fine cracks called penetration. This is an elegant feature not found in other pottery.
Precautions for using pottery
It may be damaged by sudden temperature changes such as pouring hot water or putting it on an open flame.
Scratches may occur if the bottom is rubbed on a lacquer tray, lacquer table, etc.
Do not rub hard with a cleanser or abrasive nylon scourer. This may cause the gold to peel off or scratch the surface.
Please be careful when using in microwave ovens, gas products, etc.
Please refrain from using it in the dishwasher. Doing so may cause scratches on the surface.
Do not hang the iron kettle
teapot on an open flame. The anti-rust enamel applied to the inside of the iron kettle teapot is vulnerable to heat and may crack. The attached tea strainer is made of stainless steel.
