Description
Chinese Bouquet / ApponyiThe original "Indian Flowers / Flowers of the Indies" pattern was exhibited at the Paris Exposition of 1868, where it caught the eye of the then Emperor Napoleon III, Queen Eugenie.
It is said that Eugenie purchased the "Indian Flowers" dinner set for a banquet held at the Palais Elysee at the Exposition, and entertained Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria.
Later, Count Apponyi of Hungary ordered a new dinner set for a sudden guest of honor. The order was urgent, so Herend created a simplified version of the "Indian Flowers" pattern by rearranging parts of it, and the "Apponyi" pattern was born.
The design, which features a single oriental flower in the motif of the original "Indian Flowers" enlarged and centered, is available in a variety of colors, including green, pink, black, blue, turquoise, orange, and many more.
This pattern remains one of Herend's most popular patterns to this day and is loved around the world.
Indian Basket / Fleurs des Indes
This series is characterized by oriental and Japanese designs. It is one of the few patterns with Japanese influence among Herend's designs, which are heavily influenced by Persian and Chinese influences.
It was produced from the 1840s, and the design is said to be a copy of "Kakiemon". The name "Indian Basket" comes from the fact that the East India Company carried Japanese "Kakiemon" at that time.
The "Indian Basket" presented at the Paris EXPO in 1867 was favored by Empress Eugenie of France, the wife of Napoleon III, and the dinner set purchased at that time decorated the table for a dinner to welcome Emperor Franz Joseph of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which was also Herend's hometown.
Chinoiserie
A style of art popular in Europe from the late 17th to the early 19th century. Based on Chinese / Japanese taste and fused with the Rococo style, it was used in architecture, furniture, and decoration, and was especially prevalent in ceramics.
Herend's "chinoiserie" patterns are modeled after Chinese and Japanese porcelain, and are woven with Herend's rich sense of playfulness to create a unique charm.
Herend
In 1826, Herend opened a kiln on the western edge of Hungary, near the border with Austria. This small pottery kiln was purchased by Mor Fischer in 1839, and he began to focus on the production of tableware.
In 1851, Queen Victoria purchased a set of tableware for Windsor Castle, and Herend became one of the most famous kilns in Europe.
In 1866, when Franz Joseph, then Emperor of Austria, became Emperor of Hungary, Herend tableware graced the banquets at his court. Under the protection of the Habsburgs, who were known as the noblest of the nobility, Herend tableware attracted the royalty and aristocracy of Vienna and other European countries. Herend developed together with the Austrian court, which was prosperous at the time.
Today, Herend continues to uphold the tradition of handmade work, from modeling to painting, while creating new motifs one after another. The combination of traditioni and nnovation is a very important element of Herend Porcelain.
