GLASS-LAB / Edo Sand Kiriko Flashed Glass "Sakura Saku (Cherry Blossom)" Light Blue x Red Lipped Bowl
Description
Edo Kiriko Sunakiriko Sakura Saku] is a magical floral glass that looks like a "kaleidoscope" in which the refractive index changes when water is added, and the cherry blossom pattern sculpted on the bottom of the glass is reflected on the side.
The fabric of the glass is a custom double-structure glass "covered glass" with a light blue glass coated in pink
.
And the "covered glass" was decorated with cherry blossoms on the bottom and flat
cut at a certain angle on the carved sides.
"Sand kiriko" is
a new method of expression of glass that combines the Edo kiriko techniques "Hirakiriko" and "Sandblasting".
"Hirakiriko" is a type of Edo glass designated as a traditional craft of the Japan. Normally, it is a
technique to polish the mouth of a glass or flatten the bottom of a plate, but unlike Edo kiriko,
which is drawn with lines, various gimmick kiriko can be made by diverting it to glasses.
In addition, "sandblasting", which radiates sand with compressed air from a compressor,
can be engraved as fine as 0.15 mm, and
GLASS-LAB Co., Ltd. continues to challenge the new possibilities of Edo Kiriko by combining both technologies. The
sides are polished with one of the techniques of Edo kiriko, "Hirakiriko", so
this glass is also a well-established Edo kiriko.
