Description
Mainio SarastusMainio Sarastus is Arabia's new stackable series of tableware, which can be used for serving, preparing, and storing food. The versatile tableware set includes a range of ceramic plates, cups, and bowls of different sizes. All of the pieces in the tableware series can be stacked on top of one another: the plates make great lids and the bowls and cups can be used as storage containers. The pieces are also easy to stack inside each other to make efficient use of small spaces.
The entirely new form of tableware, Mainio, is a new innovation inspired by urbanization and small homes. The number of households with one or two people is on the rise, and homes are getting smaller. The development of the Mainio tableware series was sparked by the idea of creating a relaxed tableware set that could be used for many purposes and that took small spaces into consideration.
The decoration for the Mainio tableware, Sarastus, drew inspiration from the old Ivalo decoration designed by Raija Uosikkinen in 1965. The outcome was the hand-drawn, minimalist monochrome Sarastus decoration, in which the lines and balls of the original Ivalo decoration find themselves in a new arrangement but retain the rhythmic nature of the original. Test groups were impressed by the timelessness of the decoration. Sarastus means "daybreak" in Finnish, and the decoration symbolizes the power of light while placing the food in the visual center-point of the plate.
Arabia
Simple and modern porcelain, Arabia was born in Finland in 1873. In addition to its quality, its usability and its design, Moomin series are loved by people around the world.
